TIRED on the INSIDE!
There’s a kind of tired that no amount of sleep or caffeine can fix the kind where your body might be at rest, but your soul is restless. It’s not just about being overworked or stretched thin, it’s being tired on the inside, where your mind won’t stop wandering, your heart feels unbearably heavy, and your spirit is longing for something you can’t seem to grasp. Elijah knew that feeling. After calling down fire from heaven and proving the power of God, you’d think he would have been walking on cloud nine but instead, the threat of Jezebel sent him running into the wilderness, collapsing under a broom tree, and praying for his life to end. He wasn’t just physically worn out; he was mentally drained, emotionally burdened, and spiritually empty. And what did God do? He didn’t shame Elijah for feeling weak. He didn’t tell him to “just have more faith.” He let him rest. He sent an angel to bring food and water, and gave Elijah space to sleep until he was strong enough to keep going. Later, God met him in a gentle whisper, reminding Elijah that His presence is not always loud or dramatic, but steady and close. That’s what being tired on the inside feels like and that’s how God responds. Maybe you’re there right now, your thoughts running wild with anxiety and overthinking, your heart carrying disappointments and unspoken grief, your spirit feeling far from Christ. The first step is to admit it to be honest about where you are, just like Elijah was. Then, give yourself permission to rest without guilt, to eat, to sleep, to slow down. Open Scripture even when it feels dry, because it plants seeds your spirit needs. Carve out quiet space to simply sit with God, not trying to perform but just listening for His whisper. And don’t isolate yourself reach out to a trusted friend, mentor, or pastor who can pray with you and remind you of truth when you can’t see it clearly. Being tired doesn’t make you less spiritual; it makes you human, and it positions you to encounter God’s strength in your weakness. Jesus says,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
— Matthew 11:28-30
That invitation still stands.
So if you’re tired on the inside, let Him carry what you can’t.
